ABOUT US

The Church of St Edward the Confessor is an anglican church in Romford, in the London Borough of Havering, England. It is part of the Diocese of Chelmsford. The building dates from 1849–50 and replaced an earlier church which was demolished in the mid-19th century.

We are committed to growing the congregation, and want to ensure that those who visit us feel welcome and can engage with our worship.  We aim to be a centre for the whole  community, so that everyone who lives and works in Romford feels a connection to ‘their’ church.  As a PCC we are committed to St Edward’s being the best that we can make it. With Church growth our aim is to be financially secure, and to have an increased pool of people committed to help growing discipleship within the congregation.

OUR VISION

We prize the uniqueness of all persons as God's creatures. We welcome all people, regardless of colour, gender, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, social or economic class, and nationality, for example, precisely because of Christ's calling to treat others as we desire to be treated.

WHAT WE DO

St. Edward’s sits immediately adjacent to the market and the surrounding shops. It is geographically at the centre of the town, and therefore we benefit in being accessible to everyone in Romford. This means that we are a sanctuary for people in the community that may be homeless, people who have substance addictions, and those suffering with mental health problems, which can present challenges.

OUR COMMUNITY

St Edward’s Church encourages working together with other churches in the local area, parishes within the Havering Deanery and inter-faith dialogue, something we are keen to maintain. Ecumenical activities include a service for the Week of Prayer of Christian Unity and a united service in St Edward’s Churchyard on Good Friday

FIND YOUR FAITH

The ethos of our church is Inclusive Modern Catholic with services taken using either Common Worship or the Book of Common Prayer. There is a firm emphasis on the Eucharist which takes place on Sundays at 8am (said) and the Parish Communion Service (sung) at 10am. There are regular weekday Eucharists together with the daily offices. Sung Eucharists take place on Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday and Ascension as well as the sung liturgy on Good Friday. Evening Prayer is ‘said’ on other Sundays.
